Senior EWIS Functional Design Engineer
Function
As Senior EWIS Functional Design Engineer you will be responsible for the execution of the functional design of electrical wiring interconnections, i.e. EWIS Functional Design. This involves analyzing design requirements, performing trade-off studies, making design choices and designing wire harnesses constructions and interconnections (From-To definitions), processing of aircraft systems data packages (files), writing technical reports and support continuous functional improvements of our Engineering tooling environment, through integration and concurrent engineering with international and multi-disciplinary teams and together with system suppliers and our customers.
The Senior Design Engineer will report to a Lead Engineer EFD, but will take guidance and direction on a day-to-day basis from a Senior Design Engineer or Work Package Manager within the applicable design and development project. The place of work is by default at GKN-Fokker’s Head Quarters in Papendrecht.

Who are you?
Experience:
At least 10 years of working experience in Aerospace industry;
- Bachelor or Master in aerospace, electrical, mechanical engineering;
- System design (components, constructions, schematics, wiring diagrams);
- Applying Separation / segregation rules;
- EWIS/Wiring harness functional design;
- Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools;
- MS office: (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio).
Understanding of:
- Design processes and methods / standards;
- Requirement definition / validation;
- (International) drawing standards and methods;
- Main routing architecture / topology definition;
- System safety analysis;
- Grounding and bonding definition;
- Wire & cable sizing / voltage drop calculation;
- Integration aspects of design;
- Design verification (reporting of deviations);
- Configuration management principles.
Fundamental knowledge of:
- Aircraft and systems;
- Parts & materials of wiring harnesses;
- Environmental conditions in aircraft;
- Interconnection systems;
- System architectures;
- Wiring harness installation design (3D geometry);
- Wiring harness manufacturing;
- Wiring harness installation / mounting provisions;
- Basics of electronics and mechanics.

New EWIS developments are rapidly coming up, with the focus on more sustainable and electrical solutions and the expected change in travel behavior. In line with this trend we are participating in new programs, such as new (Hybrid) Electrical aircraft, Eviation and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) vehicles.
